Aleichia Celestina
Agent: Adriana StimolaAleichia Celestina is a New York-born Afro-Latina writer, director, and producer. She began sharing her thoughts publicly in 2015 with an essay in The Huffington Post titled “Too Latina to Be Black, Too Black to Be Latina.” Her words have also been published by The New York Times, The New Yorker, Oxford University Press, and more.
She directed and produced Uncut: Not So Black and White, a short film based on her personal experience as a victim of police brutality. She also directed and wrote Dinner with Abuelita, Marcellina, and Romance Reader.
Celestina’s family is Garifuna, an Afro-Indigenous people living in Honduras, Belize, Guatemala, and other parts of Central America and the Caribbean. As a teenager, she lived in her home country of Honduras. Much of her work is influenced by her cultural identity.
When she is not writing or reading, she is likely rewatching The Apothecary Diaries.
