Jenny Howard

Jenny Howard earned her B.A. in theater from the University of Southern California and her MFA in fiction from Chapman University, where she was a creative writing fellow. She later taught creative writing at Chapman University and at the Orange County School of the Arts.

Her debut novel, When I Was Summer, was published by Viking Books for Young Readers in 2019. Transylvania County, her middle grade debut, is forthcoming from Roaring Brook Press in 2026, with a sequel to follow in 2027. She is equally committed to her craft and to writing timeless, life-affirming, delightful stories for young people.

She lives in Southern California with her husband, their three children, a neurotic terripoo, a lot of musical instruments which she sometimes has time to play, and a precocious sourdough starter named Charles Wallace.
