Jashar Awan is a celebrated rising star.

Jashar began his career as an editorial illustrator working for publications such as The New Yorker and The New York Times.

In 2020, he debuted as an author-illustrator with critical acclaim. Publisher’s Weekly spotlighted him as one of the most promising children's debut authors that Fall. They were right! His second book, Only Ants for Andy, was selected for the 2023 & 2024 Choose to Read Ohio Booklist. The Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association selected Strum & Drum: A Merry Little Quest as the artwork for their Best of Holiday catalogue and marketing materials. In the last two years, Jashar received a Geisel Honor for Towed by Toad , and a Caldecott Honor for Every Monday Mabel.

His picture books have been recognized with ALA Notables, as Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selections, on numerous Best of Year lists and have been included in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

A longtime New Yorker, Jashar moved to Ohio in 2017 with his wife Emily and their son Maxwell, who loves drawing and reading, too.
