Kay Honeyman

Kay Honeyman earned her bachelor and master degrees in Language and Literature from Baylor University. Currently, she teaches eighth-grade English. She has written for Teaching Tolerance, Appleseeds, The Writer magazine, and Faces.

Her first Young Adult novel was published by Arthur A. Levine Books/Scholastic. It follows the journey of Jade Moon, a girl born during the year of the Fire Horse and therefore cursed, as she travels in 1923 from rural China, to Angel Island off the coast of San Francisco, and onto the tong infested streets of Chinatown. Here, she finally understands that the curse she’s been trying to escape can redeem her.

The immigration story closest to Kay’s heart is the story of her son, Jack. Adopted from China, his immigration involved less drama but more paperwork, and inspired her to think about the price and prize of coming to America.

Kay lives with her husband and son in Dallas, Texas.
