David Plunkert

David Plunkert is a graphic designer, illustrator, and cartoonist. He and his wife, Joyce Hesselberth, are co-owners of the design and illustration studio Spur Design in Baltimore Maryland.

His illustrations have been published around the world and recognized by American Illustration, Communication Arts, and The Society of Publication Designers. Dave's work has been collected by the Library of Congress and The Cooper-Hewitt Design Museum among others, and exhibited at the Baltimore Museum of Art and The Design Museum of London. He has received gold medals from the Society of Illustrators in New York, and was awarded Best Magazine Cover of the Year by The American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) for his August 28th, 2017 cover of The New Yorker. He has taught graphic design and illustration at Shepherd University and The Maryland Institute College of Art, and has lectured at numerous colleges and universities. Dave was inducted into the Alliance Graphique Internationale in 2011.

David is the creator of the superhero anthology series Heroical. He designed and illustrated hardcover editions of Edgar Allan Poe's Stories and Poems and Mary Shelley's Frankenstein: The 200th Anniversary Edition published by Rockport.
